Video Deposition Tips For Success On Camera

 

DO! Consider Your Surroundings

Select a spacious room that fits video equipment
Film where lighting is even without excessive shadows
Avoid windows and other reflective / distracting backgrounds
Go off the record and remove the lavaliere microphones before conferring with your witness


DO! Wear Conservative Clothing

Avoid checks, stripes, busy ties or extravagant jewelry
Avoid black or white (these colors disturb camera exposure)
Try a solid pastel (especially light blue)
Look neatly groomed


DO! Employ Effective On Camera Behaviors

• Practice with your witness beforehand, preferably on tape
• Call any distracting habits to your witness’ attention 
Lean forward
Avoid long pauses
Make eye contact
Use minimal hand gestures
Listen attentively
Avoid interrupting the witness or opposing counsel

DO! Remove Noise Interference

Turn off cell phones & wireless communication devices
Try to record where traffic cannot be heard

DO! Use Technology to Its Fullest

• Consider digitizing and synchronizing your video with your transcript
